Potting Up
It's no secret that Millie loves growing plants; in her world, anything that can
It's no secret that Millie loves growing plants; in her world, anything that can hold soil can hold a plant. Here she is making custom planters to bring even more greenery inside.
Narrow spaces can be a challenge to grow plants, so Millie designed a drip-tray shelf specifically for pot plants to sit in. However, the only pots that fit in this narrow space are small terracotta pots, which hold only about one cup of soil and dry out quickly. So, she's on a mission to find a solution to grow larger plants that won't need as much attention.
Millie is starting with some large planters that have been made by an artist and cut from old gas cylinders. They have great height, but the difficulty is finding a long narrow pot that will fit nicely inside them. The solution? Make them yourself, using salvaged materials.
There are always a few plants we would love to grow in the garden but just don't have the right conditions for them, so bringing them indoors is a good way to enjoy them. Millie's potting up Osmanthus fragrans, which by the name alone should indicate that they're grown for their fragrant scent in the garden – They're Millie's favourite and it's coming indoors into the gas cylinder planter.
